About Us
Linen is the oldest cloth. Older than wool. Older than silk. Older than the common opinion that linen is a Summer fabric.
We don’t believe that opinion.
We believe linen breathes in the Summer and retains heat in the Winter. We believe a linen jacket, properly cut, is the most comfortable thing you will own at any time of the year. We believe the softness it earns over years – the way it remembers you and softens with every wear – is the thing that fast clothing can never give you because fast clothes are made to be replaced. Ours are made to be lived in.
Every MISSING piece is made entirely in London. The flax is grown on the French and Belgian borders, where the best flax in the world has grown for centuries. The yarn is spun in Poland. The cloth is dyed woven and finished at a small mill in Ireland, It is then sent to North London, where our manufacturer – third generation, family-run, twenty minutes from our studio – turns it into the garment you eventually unwrap.
Our buttons are Trocas shell, made in England by a button-maker that has been in business for nearly a hundred and twenty years. The signature M button uses a six-hole setting on a machine that had not been used in more than twenty years.
We produce in small batches because we want every piece to be considered. We work with people we know because we want our makers paid properly and our garments made well. We make clothes you can keep.
It is the MISSING goal to replace excess with quality, individuality and sustainability. Materials used have a history, a story and consideration. These are the pillars of our brand.
